Using built-in electronic probes, or optional interchangeable electrodes, the Compact measures moisture content which is then indicated on a clearly calibrated analog dial.

The Compact provides a range of readings, up to 40% moisture in wood, and 0–100 on a colour-coded relative scale. This pocket-size, and versatile instrument offers an accurate, fast and convenient way of moisture measurement at a low cost.

How it works..
The Compact is able to provide fast, accurate moisture readings by using advanced technology based on electrical resistance. When the hand-held or hammer probes are pressed into wood, the electrical resistance between the probes is measured and indicated on the large, easy-to-read display meter.
If moisture is present in the wood, the electrical resistance between the probes changes. The higher the moisture content, the greater the reduction in resistance. This resistance is sensed by the instrument, which then translates it into the percentage of dry weight moisture content.

The three main reasons for controlling moisture content in wood are:

To minimise problems due to dimensional change or distortion which can be caused by moisture loss or gain by the wood or wood byproducts when in use.

To enable efficient processing such as milling, machining, gluing, laminating, spraying and painting.

To prevent deterioration and decay, ensuring adequate strength.
